Above, the Summer Bash 5K run was very well attended with over 90 participants for a record turnout this year. Check the story to see the full results. The sheep were a little too wild and crazy for most of the kids who tried the mutton-busting event. The majority were kicked off after just a couple seconds.

Veblen Enjoys Summer Bash

The 10th Annual Veblen Summer Bash last weekend was a smashingly good time despite some soggy weather that day.

The events got started bright and early Saturday with the 5K Run. Over 90 runners and walkers participated in the event.

Results were as follows: Female 14 and under: Cheyenne Braaten; Male 14 and under: Mario Oziel Alvarez; Female 15-- 18: Sterling Mertens; Female 19-29: Sheridan Swanson; Male 19-29: Hanier Lorene’s Hernandez; Female 30-39: Jennifer Nelson; Male 30-39: Jack Powers; Female 40-49: Lyndsey Ochsner; Male 40-49: Mario A. Alvarez; Female 50+: Lynn Storbakken; Male 50+: Mike Halverson; Top 5 Overall: 1. Jack Powers; 2. Woody Hawkins; 3. Hanier Lorenes Hernandez; 4. Mike Halverson; 5. Jaime Aquino.

Saturday evening, the weather was perfect for the Summer Bash rodeo. Results for the events: Jr Bareback: Wyatt Berndt- 69; Jr. Barrels: Ava German- 16.53; Sr. Barrels: Joelle Laurence-16.75; Team Roping- Travis Johnson/Mason Okke- 4.82. Mini Bulls- Wyatt Berndt- 71; Jr. Bulls- Kolt Mendenhall-83; Sr. Bulls- Keaton Kaehn-73. There were no scores for Senior Bareback, Saddlebronc or Ranch Bronc.

Other events during Summer Bash included the car show on Saturday morning, yoga at the Old School and live music in the evening.

Veblen Club member Karie Geyer said they were very pleased with the turnout for all the events this year. The 5K, car show and rodeo all had a record number of participants.
