Storley New LA Superintendent

A familiar local face will soon be seen in the halls at Langford Area School. During the Monday meeting of the Langford Area School Board, the group approved a contract for superintendent with Shad Storley for the next school year as well as interim superintendent.

Storley is a northeast South Dakota native. He taught and coached at Britton-Hecla, then assumed principal duties in Wagner before returning to B-H as principal. He would then go on to work as superintendent in the Redfield and Wagner districts.

According to Jennifer Gustafson, LA School Board President, Storley will take up the administrator’s duties on part-time basis starting next week.

Storley’s hiring comes the week after former LA Superintendent Ryan Bruns was suspended with pay. After a special meeting last week, the board stated the following about their decision: “Based upon the findings and decision of the State Professional Administrators Practices and Standards Commission, a motion was made to suspend Superintendent Ryan Bruns with pay pending the Secretary of Education’s final decision.”

Board President Jennifer Gustafson said the board had no further comment on the suspension.

About the Professional Administrators Practices and Standards Commission: “The PAPSC is composed of five administrators, one school board member, and one parent, appointed by the Governor.”

Check next week’s Journal for more about Storley’s hiring and other school board business.
