COUNTY COMMISSION

In their first meeting of the new year, the Marshall County Commission handled the yearly organizational tasks. This included electing a new chairman for the first time in over a decade. Matt Schuller will take over the leadership duties from Doug Medhaug who has served in the position for 13 years. Kevin Jones will be vice chairman.

Elected officials were also sworn in. This includedAuditor Megan Biel, Register of Deeds Kalissa Stelzer, Sheriff Sam Swanson and Commissioners Lynda Luttrell, Kevin Jones and Doug Medhaug.

The commission decided to create a search and rescue budget to support the purchase, maintenance and upkeep of a search and rescue vehicle. Representatives from the North Marshall Fire Departments had recently spoken to the commission about helping fund search and rescue since the NMFD performs this service all over Marshall County.

Salaries were also approved and will be published in the meeting minutes in next week’s paper. On call pay was approved at a rate for $4/hr.

In other business, the commission approved the second reading and passed the new drainage ordinance. Fuel quotes were approved. Future meetings will be held Jan. 24, Feb. 7 and Feb. 28.
