Langford Area Reintroduces National Honor Society

     Langford Area School recently reintroduced a noteworthy academic recognition program to shine a light on high-achieving students. Four students were inducted into the school’s chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS), including senior Megan Gustafson and juniors Jordis Jenner, Jake Samson, and Eliana Darling.
    LA School Counselor Megan Lynde says she is pleased that the school revived the NHS program. “We had not had it for a while and I was happy there was interest in it,” she noted. “It’s a great program because it’s not just about grades. They also consider character and how active students have been outside of their school in the community.”
    Based on the criteria put forth by the national program, scholarship, service, leadership and character are all considered, explained Lynde. “For our school, to be eligible, a student has to be a junior or a senior with a 3.25 grade point average.” Students who met the GPA and other qualifications were encouraged to apply. 
    A five-member teacher panel reviewed the applications and chose the students to be inducted into the National Honor Society. Jenner, Samson, Darling and Gustafson were all recognized in a ceremony held a few weeks ago. 
    “We have gotten good feedback from the community about the program and look forward to continuing it in future years,” added Lynde.
