Elections Coming Up For Hecla, Langford

            As many positions on area town boards expire this year, there will be a couple of local elections next month. An April 9 election will take place in Hecla and Langford as multiple candidates seek council or board seats.

            In Hecla, there will be an election as the city moves from a ward system of government to an at-large system. Four candidates turned in petitions for three one-year aldermen seats including incumbents Mary Freudenthal, Susan Ravert and Terry Ulmer, along with challenger Marilyn Frohling. These four will appear on the ballot April 9.

            In other Hecla positions, incumbent Randy Pfutzenreuter was the only one to turn in a petition for the two year mayoral term. For the three two-year aldermen seats, incumbents Shelley Ruenz, Reece Treeby, and Daniel Vancil submitted petitions.

            In Langford, there will also be an April 9^th election for a three-year trustee position. Matt Fries and Todd Sell will compete for the position. Incumbent Jordan Hupke did not submit a petition.

            In other area positions, Frank Rasmussen submitted a petition for the three-year seat in Claremont formerly held by Jason Spencer. Spencer did not submit a petition. In Pierpont, Deric Ries was the only one to turn in a petition for the three-year seat he is currently holding.

Dan Poss was also the only one to petition for his own three-year spot in Eden. No one turned in a petition in Lake City for the three-year term held by Chad Olson.

Veblen ended up pushing back the date of their election to June so petitions can still be submitted until March 26. As of yet though, no petitions have been submitted for positions held by Kristin Hofland and Kerry Anderson, nor the seat that is currently unoccupied in Veblen.

In Britton, petitions are also due on March 26 to run for the two year seats currently held by Lindsey Kimber (Ward I), Norm Mack (Ward II) and Austin Sasker (Ward III).
