Commission Talks Courthouse Plans

The Marshall County Commissioners met on Tuesday. One of the agenda items was a planned discussion about Courthouse work. An ISG engineer was present for the meeting. The commission approved the ISG’s fees, amounting to $15,000, for plans and marketing of the project before an April ballot referendum takes place. In the upcoming months, there will be public meeting held and information on the project dispersed.

Dirk Weber, representing the North Marshall Fire Department, attended the meeting. He asked if the county would help with the purchase of a light duty search and rescue vehicle since they are the only department in the county that does that.

The five-year highway plan was discussed. Don Hanson of Weston Township expressed that he would like to see the road near his house improved back to asphalt. They talked more about the bridge project on county 2, on the South/ North Dakota border. Bids for the project came in over the grant amount. IMEG is working on ways to manage costs for the project.

In other business, the commission requested quotes for sidewalk work around the Britton shop. They declared part of a culvert surpluss. They also accepted the resignation of Karol Chapin from dispatcher. She will be moving to the Director of Equalization’s office.

District 1 House candidates Kay Nikolas and Steve McCleerey introduced themselves to the commission.

Drainage was approved for Michael Atkinson (Dayton Township) and a building permit was approved for Joel Erickson, Sisseton Township.
