BUSINESS OF THE MONTH

When Jannine Fagerland sees a new vehicle with dealer plates or a new combine rolling down the highway, she does a double take. It is not necessarily because she's admiring the new vehicle or piece of equipment though. Fagerland is wondering who the driver is and if their new item is appropriately insured. She is not just being nosy, but rather is passionate about making sure they are protected and helping people wade through the difficult process of insurance. Now, as an insurance agent with the company OnPoint who recently opened her own brick and mortar location in Eden this past year, Fagerland is excited to continue to assist people with their insurance needs.

Fagerland’s path to selling insurance on Main Street in Eden, SD is not necessarily typical. In fact, it begins an ocean away. Her parents were born and raised in Germany. She moved to the U.S. at age five when her mother married a man from Huron. Fagerland would spend her formative years there and graduate from Huron High School.

After attending Lake Area Tech to earn a Business Management and Sales degree, Fagerland started a family in Watertown and would work there for ten years in sales. She found her way a little further north in 2007 when she met her future husband Chad and moved to the Roy Lake area with her kids.

Fagerland worked as she also furthered her education again by earning a behavioral sciences degree from Mount Marty. Eventually, she says a lightbulb went off for her that led her towards insurance. She was inspired by her own insurance agent and also by a little soul-searching.
