B-H Board OKs Bus Purchase

    The Britton-Hecla Board of Education met last Thursday. At the meeting, the board discussed the purchase of a 14 passenger mid-bus. They reviewed piggyback bids from the Howard School District. Piggybacking allows a district to use another school’s bids to save time and money.
    Three bids were received by their district. Harlow’s Bus Service bid $122,184.60 with a delivery date of mid-Dec. 2024. Foreman Bus Sales bid $89,584.00 with a delivery date of Mar./Apr. 2024. North Central Sales bid $87,617 with an unknown delivery date. The board ultimately moved to accept the bid from Foreman’s for $89,584 due to the availability.
    In personnel matters, contracts were offered for several administration positions, including Superintendent Steve Benson, Business Manager Kayla Hastings, MS/HS Principal Carrie James, Elementary Principal Kyla Richter, School Counselor Sheila Anderson, Athletic Director Stephanie Symens with salaries to be set at a later date. 
    Various leave requests were approved. The group voted to offer a junior high boys basketball coaching contract for 2024-25 to Brandon Peters with the salary to be determined following negotiations.
    Next year’s school calendar was approved. The calendar is very similar to this year. School will start on Tuesday, Aug. 20. 
    A 45-minute executive session was held to discuss personnel matters. Following the session, a motion was made by Audrey Schuller to include administration surveys as part of the evaluation process for the 2023-24 school year. With no second, the motion failed.
    There will be a special meeting on Monday, March 4 at 5:30 p.m. to go over administration evaluations. 
    The next regular board meeting is scheduled for March 11 at 6:00 p.m.
