June Wickre Oakins was born on her father’s birthday, June 7, 1931, to Jacob and Gertrude Wickre in Veblen, South Dakota. She attended country school for elementary education and graduated Valedictorian of her class from Veblen High School in 1948. June enrolled in Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, SD after high school and received a teaching certificate that allowed her to teach in country schools, which she did for two years. 09/06/2023 12:00 AM

Almost five months after suffering life threatening injuries in a car accident, Edennative Cade Roerig has made strides in his recovery including being able to walk without a cane over the past month. Helping Roerig along was a recent fundraiser held during the Day County Fair in which members of the public voted for a local celebrity to kiss a pig by using cash as votes. LA Board Talks Football Again

The regular board meeting of the Langford Area School District was held last Wednesday. During the public comment section, Activities Director Brett Gibbs and football coaches Michael Alberts and Pat Sayler were present to discuss the Junior High Football season. They are struggling with numbers to sustain a team.
