LA BOARD: STORLEY RESIGNS AS SUPT.

LA BOARD: STORLEY RESIGNS AS SUPT.
At their October meeting, the Langford Area Board of Education accepted the resignation of Superintendent Shad Storley.

The Langford Area Board of Education accepted the resignation of Superintendent Shad Storley during its meeting last Thursday, following an executive session.
Storley has been with the district since 2023 and previously served as an administrator in several South Dakota school districts. The board also accepted a proposal from Dakota Education Consulting (DEC), a South Dakota-based firm that assists K-12 school boards with administrative searches, including superintendent recruitment. The position is expected to be advertised soon.
The meeting also included a legislative update from District 1 Sen. Mike Rohl, District 1 Rep. Nick Fosness and District 1 representative candidate Dan Kjos. Discussion covered projected public school funding, property taxes and state testing.
In other business, the board discussed a $600 donation to the district’s food service program earmarked for its farm-to-table program. Members also approved declaring bus No. 8 surplus property, with plans to advertise it for sale.
The board approved a contribution to school attorney Rodney Freeman to attend the National Education Law Meeting and appointed Jenn Gustafson as the district’s delegate to the delegate assembly.
The board also discussed property acquisition. The district recently purchased a house next to the school for $42,900 and is advertising the house to be moved. The goal is to use the property for district purposes. The board tabled discussion of its five-year capital outlay project list.
Principal Abby Kwasniewski reported on student eligibility and said students have done a good job adjusting to changes in the grading scale. She also discussed truancy, senior privileges and students’ participation in the National FFA Convention.
Storley provided an update on school transportation, noting the district is still looking for a driver with a bus endorsement to operate a regular bus route. He also raised concerns about planning for next school year if a current driver does not return.
Parent-teacher conferences were scheduled for the week of the meeting. The board also discussed improvements in the main gym, including work on the basketball hoop motor and options for providing access to the stage. The district is looking into installing a lift rather than a ramp.
The next Langford Area Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Nov. 9 at 7 a.m.
