BRAVES' WIN STREAK NOW FIVE

Regular Season Finale In Sisseton
BRAVES' WIN STREAK NOW FIVE
Britton-Hecla senior football co-captains this season from left to right are Ben Suther, Jace Rein, and Graham Fosness. The Braves travel to Sisseton for the regular season finale on Friday and will host a first round playoff game on Oct. 22.

The Britton-Hecla football team extended its winning streak to five games with a solid 49-6 over Redfield on Friday and will travel to Sisseton for its regular season finale this Friday starting at 7 p.m.
The Braves, now 6-1, are currently third in the power point rankings among Class 9AA teams behind Parkston (6-0) and Hamlin (6-1). The top 16 squads qualify for postseason play with the top eight teams hosting opening round contests on Thursday, Oct. 22.  A Braves win would give them the home field advantage for the first two rounds of the playoffs.
Sisseton is 1-6 and the two clubs have played four common foes.  Both teams defeated Webster Area (BH 59-22, Sisseton 39-12) and both lost to Hamlin (BH 34-22, Sisseton 56-6).  The Braves defeated Great Plains Lutheran 35-6 while the Redmen lost 36-14, and B-H downed Waubay-Summit 40-22 while Sisseton fell 52-0.
“I thought we played well on Friday,” said B-H coach Jacob Skogstad.  “We need to clean up some turnover problems and figure out how to play with intensity for four quarters now.”
B-H scored early and often to take charge against Redfield in the opening half, racing to a 42-0 lead at halftime and scoring on all six of its first half possessions.
Ben Suther, who ran for 212 yards on just 12 carries (17.7 ave.) began the scoring parade with a 12-yard scoring run just 1:32 into the contest.  Lofton Heer booted the first of his seven PAT kicks for a quick 7-0 lead.  A minute and a half later quarterback Jace Rein hit Nathan Folkman with a 25-yard scoring toss.
On the Braves third possession Rein connected with Chaz Vietor from four yards out and Suther capped the first quarter scoring barrage when he scampered 76 yards to paydirt for a 28-0 lead.
After a short Redfield punt it took the Braves just two plays to go up 35-0 with 9:01 left in the half when Rein connected again with Folkman from 17 yards out.  The Braves put together their longest drive of the game after Elijah Fox stopped a fourth down Redfield play from the Braves’ 18.  The eight-play drive went 82 yards and Luke Bosse put on the finishing touches with a two-yard run for a 42-0 lead with 40 seconds left in the half.
Redfield managed its lone score on a 51-yard pass play in the third period that Rein answered on the Braves next possession with a one-yard run to wrap up the scoring.
Rein hit 10-15 passes for 140 yards passing and three touchdowns and the Braves managed 157 passing and 266 on the ground to win the total yardage battle 423-189.  Rein contributed 36 yards rushing and Jack Teveldal had 35 to support Suther’s big effort.  Heer was the top receiver with three catches for 65 yards, Teveldal had 4-46 and Folkman 2-42.  Redfield managed just 28 yards rushing on 28 tries and 161 passing for a 189 total.
Ben Suther led the defensive effort with 5.5 stops, Nate Schuller had five, and Bosse 4.5.  Heer intercepted a pass and recovered a fumble.

Poll: DO YOU CONSIDER THE INDEPENDENTS? Independent candidates are becoming a more visible option in South Dakota and other Great Plains states. U.S. Senate candidate Brian Bengs of South Dakota, along with independent candidates in Montana and Nebraska, recently pledged not to caucus with either major party if elected. They say they would consider policies from both parties and prioritize the needs of their constituents over party leadership. When deciding how to vote, do you seriously consider independent candidates, or do you generally vote along party lines?
