LADY BRAVES HIT BUMPS IN THE ROAD

LADY BRAVES HIT BUMPS IN THE ROAD
Britton-Hecla’s Adalynn Schmieg spiked this ball past a Groton Area defender in volleyball action on Monday. Schmieg had 12 kills in the Lady
Braves three matches in the past week.

The Britton-Hecla volleyball squad hit a bit of a bump in the road this week, dropping two straight matches for the first time this season.
Coach Jenna Peters’ squad swept Waubay-Summit last week Tuesday 25-16, 26-24, 25-21 but was swept by Aberdeen Roncalli 25-20, 25-14, 25-16 on Thursday and Groton Area rallied from an opening set loss on Monday to post a 24-26, 25-21, 25-18, 25-20 win.
Britton-Hecla took a 13-4 mark into a matchup with North Central last night Tuesday, hosts Hamlin on Thursday and Great Plains Lutheran comes to town on Tuesday.

Groton Area 24-25-25-25
B-H 26-21-18-20
Britton-Hecla turned back a Groton Area rally in the opening set but the Tigers turned things around the rest of the way.
The Lady Braves forged a 20-14 lead in set one as Chellon Pruitt hit six serves and a pair of aces, but the Tigers clawed back to tied the match at 24-all before B-H prevailed on a Pruitt kill and a service ace.
In set two the local netters fought back from a 9-3 deficit to tie the match at 18-18 on a Maddi Micko kill, but GA went on a 6-1 run to even the match.  Then the visitors went on a 7-1 run to take charge of the third set 14-7 and the Lady Braves never mounted a serious threat.  In the final set the visitors scored six straight to break a 12-12 tie.  B-H cut the lead to 22-18 but couldn’t get any closer.
Kennady Van Lith was 17-17 at the service line with four aces and Micko was 26-29 at the net with 13 kills to lead the Lady Braves.  Daynika Zuehlke added four blocks and 13 digs, and Jaelee Grupe had 14 digs and 30 assists.

Roncalli 25-25-25
B-H 20-14-16
Aberdeen Roncalli ended Britton-Hecla’s five-game winning streak by sweeping its match over the Lady Braves.
Daynika Zuehlke had three aces and eight kills to lead the local squad.  Brynlee Schmieg came up with 13 digs.

B-H 25-26-25
Waubay-Summit 16-24-21
Britton-Hecla came through at crunch time, using a finishing kick in all three sets to earn the sweep over Waubay-Summit.
The Lady Braves led just 14-12 in the opening set before going on an 11-4 run.  Maddi Micko, who had five aces and 14 kills in the match, dished out a couple of kills during the run and finished the set with four straight serves, including a pair of aces.
Waubay-Summit led 21-18 in set two before Chellon Pruitt served four straight and Tiana Tank pounded a kill for a 23-21 lead.  The set was tied at 23 and 24 before Micko put the local netters up 2-0, again hitting two straight aces for the win.
The visitors led 18-16 in set three but once again the Lady Braves wouldn’t be denied, outscoring W-S 9-3 down the stretch.  Tank had two kills, Micko and Mataya Knecht one each, and Grupe an ace as B-H earned the sweep.

Poll: DO YOU CONSIDER THE INDEPENDENTS? Independent candidates are becoming a more visible option in South Dakota and other Great Plains states. U.S. Senate candidate Brian Bengs of South Dakota, along with independent candidates in Montana and Nebraska, recently pledged not to caucus with either major party if elected. They say they would consider policies from both parties and prioritize the needs of their constituents over party leadership. When deciding how to vote, do you seriously consider independent candidates, or do you generally vote along party lines?
