The Britton-Hecla oral interpretation team is off and running for the 2026 season. Last Tuesday was the Arlington Invitational involving eight other schools, and Monday was the Milbank Invitational with seven different schools participating. The coaches, Christina Bosse and Gretchen Christenson, indicated that these contests, each involving three rounds of competition, are a great opportunity for students to hone their speaking skills and to see what other performers are doing.
The Arlington meet gave medals for the top students in each category, and the school earned three of these: Carter Chapin and Amelia Ingvalson in duo, Baylee Bender in oratory, and Emily Effling in poetry. Superior Plus ribbons were earned by Chapin and Adalyn Kanizar in storytelling , Noah Schuster in serious reading, and Chapin, Ingvalson, and Aiden Strong in reader’s theatre. The following performers came home with Superior ribbons: Strong and Schuster in duo, Annalie Satterlee, Tinley Beck, and Ryer Larson in humorous, Ruthie Moeckly and Caitlyn Casey in oratory, Ingvalson in poetry, Strong in serious reading, and Moeckly, Lillian Boyko, and Avery Leonard in reader’s theatre.
At the Milbank contest, four students came home with top honors and Superior Plus ribbons: Casey and Schuster in serious reading, Ingvalson in poetry, and Chapin in storytelling. Superior ribbons were earned by Beck, Larson, Brooklyn Hunt in humorous, Bender and Moeckly in oratory, the Chapin/Ingvalson and Strong/Schuster duos, Kanizar in storytelling, and Luzetta Moeckly, Cecily Tobin, and Strong in serious reading. Casey received an Excellent Plus in oratory.
The next outing for the Braves is Saturday the 10th in Summit.
