Langford Area’s volleyball squad came up with two wins in three outings during the past week, dropping a four-set decision to Faulkton, rallying from an opening-set loss to defeat Waubay-Summit, and sweeping Wilmot.
This week the Lady Lions took their 12-8 season record against Sisseton last night Tuesday and host Hitchcock-Tulare on Tuesday.

Langford Area had a slow start but a strong finish in a four-set loss to Faulkton.
“The team faced a rough opening set and the second set struggle was even worse,” said Larson. “But after struggling through the first two sets the team came alive in the final two, showing determination and fighting back. I was really proud of the way we turned things around in winning the third set, and we battled hard in the fourth and played well but came up short. The girls played with a lot of energy and drive the last two sets and it’s a game of momentum. After the struggle we had at the start I was pleased with the finish.”
Lizzie Gustafson had six kills, a pair of service aces, and 17 digs to lead the Lady Lions. Emily Olson was perfect at the service line, hitting 13-131 and two aces and added three kills at the net and a couple of blocks.

Langford Area battled back from an opening-set loss to take three straight from Waubay-Summit.
“We had a slow start again but bounced right back,” said Larson. “Lizzie and Emily had good nights at the net and in the back row defensively. I’d like a better start, but I’m always pleased when we can regroup and reset for the next set.”
Lizzie Gustafson pounded 12 kills and had a block at the net and came up with 14 digs, while Emily Olson added eight kills, a block, and 16 digs as well as contributing five service aces on a 20-21 night.

Wilmot 18-20-20
LA boosted its season mark to 12-8 with a straight set win over Wilmot.
“We played well enough to win but we had another slow start, so this is something we’re going to have to work on at practice,” noted Larson. “Once we got going things slowly fell into place. The girls kept their wits about them and struggled through and I’m proud of them for that. They don’t give up easily and they’re not afraid to work through the hard patches.
“Brooke had a good night at the net and the service line and she dug us out of the second set when we were trailing 14-5,” Larson added. “It was a really nice comeback to win the set and she scored a run of eight for us to get us back in the game. The girls stayed focused and didn’t fall apart or give up.”
Brooke Dwight was 19-21 at the service line with seven aces and was also 17-19 at the net with seven kills. Josie Jensen was credited with three blocks and Emily Olson, Lizzie Gustafson, and Bailey Dwight each came up with 12 digs.
