Fifth-ranked Deuel scored three touchdowns in each half and shut out Groton Area 41-0 in Class 11B and Northeast Conference football action on Friday.
The Cardinals moved to 6-1 on the year and stand 2-0 in the NEC, while the Tigers fell to 2-4 and 0-2 in league play. This week Friday Groton Area hosts Mobridge-Pollock (3-3) at 7 p.m. The two teams have played one common opponent in Clark-Willow Lake. Mobridge-Pollock dropped a 26-24 contest to the 7-0 Cyclones last week, while GA lost a 36-14 decision.
“Mobridge-Pollock has a deep roster with experience throughout,” said GA boss Jordan Carson. “They will play fast and physical, especially being the battle of the Tigers. They are a high-energy team that plays well disciplined football. We will have to take advantage of any potential mistakes that they make and try to maintain the game in terms of time of possession and our down and distance.
“Our guys are hungry to get back out on the field and are looking to try to put together a few scoring drives/explosive plays to try and right the ship after a difficult week offensively,” added Carson.
Deuel rolled up three scores of 25 yards or more including a 67-yard run and a 77-yard pass play in the second half. The Cards ran for 268 yards and passed for 143 for 411 yards, while the Tigers managed just 59 on the ground and 86 via the airways for 145.
“Deuel is a well-coached team with maybe the best combination of size and speed across 11B,” said Carson. “Their backfield tandem has explosive play capability, the team physicality was elite, and their football atmosphere they create makes moments of the game challenging. They have things rolling right now and seem geared up for a big playoff run. Best of luck to them.”
Asher Johnson led GA rushers with 30 yards on 13 tries and was 6-16 passing. Anthony Tracy grabbed four passes for 55 yards. Defensviely, Ryder Schwan and Ryder Schelle each had five stops and Johnson had a pass interception.
