The annual Fort Sisseton Harvest Festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fort Sisseton Historic State Park.
The family event will feature fall activities, historical demonstrations, hands-on learning opportunities and local craft vendors. Visitors can explore the park grounds and historic buildings while taking part in activities throughout the day.
One of the highlights will be a kite-flying demonstration by the Jamestown Professional Kite Fliers, with large kites taking to the sky. Visitors can also participate in hands-on quilting, contribute to a community quilt square, take wagon rides and play a history-themed game of Clue.
Other activities include kids’ crafts, pumpkin chunkin and slingshots, apple harvesting and a visit to Doc Terra’s Apothecary Garden to learn about traditional plant medicine.
A Great Depression Dutch oven cooking class will be held at 11 a.m., featuring historic campfire cooking and samples. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., visitors can help harvest the fort’s garden.
A South Dakota Park Entrance License is required for all vehicles entering the park. Daily licenses and annual passes are available at the park entrance gate.
