COURTHOUSE PRICE TAG RISES, FORT ROAD WORK STARTING SOON

COURTHOUSE PRICE TAG RISES, FORT ROAD WORK STARTING SOON

The Marshall County Commission met Tuesday morning and discussed several highway, courthouse and zoning matters, including an upcoming road resurfacing project and another adjustment to the cost of the courthouse renovation.
During the highway portion of the meeting, commissioners approved approach permits for Gary Gangle and Jason Bender.
The board also signed a proposal with Bituminous Paving to resurface portions of the Fort Road. Work on the project is expected to begin soon. The state has committed $1.7 million toward the project, which has an estimated overall cost of approximately $2.2 million. The county will be responsible for the remaining portion of the project cost.
Commissioners also discussed fuel for the courthouse generator but took no action on the matter. The commission’s provisional budget hearing is scheduled for the next meeting.
The board approved an addendum to the contract for the courthouse renovation and new law enforcement center. The addendum is anticipated to be the final adjustment to the project’s overall price. It increases the guaranteed maximum price by $75,524, bringing the total project cost to $9,059,197. The figure does not include architect fees and some inspection costs.
Commissioners also discussed plans for an open house for the renovated courthouse and new law enforcement center. The event is tentatively being considered for sometime in September. Additional information will be announced as plans are finalized.
In zoning matters, the commission approved a drainage request from Renald Tank in Waverly Township with conditions.
The board also approved plats for the Nordquist 6th Addition in Lake Township and Emery Addition in Stena Township. For Block 10 Schlekewy Addition in Lake Township, the board made a motion to require the appropriate documents to be provided before the request could be reconsidered.
Building permits were approved for Jared Holland in Miller Township, Shelley Marie in Lake Township, with two permits approved, Cameron Koeppe in Buffalo Township and Thad Jensen in Wismer Township.
The commission also discussed changes to the timeline for Ordinance 79, the Revised Zoning Regulations for Marshall County, South Dakota.
