The Langford Area Board of Education met Tuesday, Aug. 11, with preparations for the upcoming school year among the items discussed.
The board approved an activities handbook for the district. Superintendent Shad Storley said the district had not previously had an activities handbook, and the new document will provide guidelines for students participating in school activities.
Board members also approved two open enrollment applications for incoming students.
A request to approve certified staff lane changes was tabled for further consideration.
The district continues to work on staffing needs, including hiring paraprofessionals. The board approved the hiring of Breanna Hamann and Emma Eppe as paraprofessionals. The district was also still seeking a bus driver as of the Aug. 11 meeting.
During his administrator’s report, Storley discussed preparations for the new school year and the final push to get schedules and other details finalized. The first day of school for Langford Area students was Wednesday, Aug. 19.
The district is also exploring ways to use early-out days for professional development. Storley said administrators are working on plans for a session focused on artificial intelligence.
The next Langford Area Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 14, at 7 a.m.
