RHODEN TAKES COUNTY IN RUNOFF

Republican voters in Marshall County went to the polls Tuesday, July 28, for the South Dakota Republican gubernatorial runoff election, choosing between incumbent Gov. Larry Rhoden and challenger Toby Doeden. Only registered Republicans were eligible to vote.

The runoff was required after the June 2 Republican primary, in which Doeden finished first and Rhoden second. Because no candidate received the required 35% of the vote, the top two candidates advanced to the runoff election.

In Marshall County, Rhoden received 74.5% of the vote with 435 votes, while Doeden earned 25.5% with 149 votes.

The local results mirrored the statewide outcome, where Rhoden received the majority of the votes compared to Doeden (as of 9 p.m. Tuesday).

Voter turnout in Marshall County was 41.6%, with 585 of the county's registered Republican voters casting ballots. According to Marshall County Auditor Megan Biel, 95 ballots were cast through absentee and early voting.

Election results are considered unofficial until they are canvassed and certified.
