The Claremont Legion and junior high baseball teams wrapped up their seasons in postseason play last week.
The Legion squad competed in the Region 1B tourney in Milbank, falling to Milbank 13-3 in game one of the double elimination event, downing Big Stone City 6-4, and was eliminated by Sisseton 12-4. Groton won the regional title and will play in the state tourney in Madison this week.
Claremont’s grade 7-9 team traveled to Gregory for the Delta Division VFW State Tournament, losing pool play games to Wessington Springs 8-6 and Gregory 17-4, falling in heartbreaker to Corsica-Stickney 4-3 in bracket play, and avenging its earlier loss to Wessington Springs with a 5-4 win in the fifth place game.

Claremont jumped out to a three-run lead in the top of the first inning but Milbank scored in each inning and took advantage of nine Honker errors.
Nate Schuller, Kassen Keough, and Case Reints each singled for Claremont. Reints and Wes Morehouse were on the mound.

Claremont erased a 2-0 deficit with a four-run third and added single tallies in the fifth and sixth frames for the win.
Grant Cutler was 3-3 at the plate with a double, two singles, and a pair of RBI’s. Reints added a double, single, and two RBI’s, Chris Cutler doubled, and Schuller, Carter Glines, and Nick Cutler had safeties. Keough went the distance on the mound, striking out six and allowing just one walk.
