The Marshall County Commission handled a variety of highway and zoning matters during its regular meeting Tuesday morning.
Highway Superintendent Dustin Hofland reported that county crews have applied approximately $35,000 worth of gravel to county roads and spent about $1.06 million on asphalt patching projects covering approximately 44 miles throughout the county.
The Wade Bridge project has been completed, with the final cost coming in at approximately $313,000. Hofland also updated commissioners on the Fort Sisseton road project, noting that estimates have come back at about $2.2 million. The county is currently waiting to hear what level of funding assistance the state may provide for the project.
Commissioners approved a boring permit request from Lake Region Electric Association.
Veteran’s Service Officer Dave Daberkow presented his quarterly report to commissioners.
The commission approved one-day liquor licenses for two upcoming dates for the Shrine Club at Fort Sisseton.
Commissioners also approved having Cory Bremmon construct a handrail for the north entrance of the Marshall County Courthouse.
A two-year pay increase was approved for Director of Equalization Katrina Johnson, moving her salary to $60,159. Commissioners later entered into executive session for contract negotiations, with no action taken afterward.
State’s Attorney Victor Rapkoch also updated commissioners on recent law enforcement contract discussions.
In zoning matters, the commission reviewed a recommendation regarding Rezone Ordinance No. 78 involving Roy View Country Club, LLC. Following discussion, a motion and roll call vote were held to make a recommendation to the County Commission.
Several building permits were also approved, including requests from Todd Frerichs in Lake Township, Renae Rein in Buffalo Township, Ryan Furman in Miller Township and John Kroll in Lake Township, with a variance included for Kroll’s permit.
Commissioners also discussed proposed clerical corrections to the Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation section and the Lake-Front District section of the county zoning ordinance. A timeline for the changes will be presented at the next scheduled commission meeting on Aug. 4.
A member of the public also attended the meeting to discuss a drainage-related letter that had been sent to township officials.
