Eight Teams Competing In Bravo Division Friday Through Sunday

    The Britton Lumberjack baseball squads had a perfect week in preparation for hosting the state VFW Varsity Bravo Division Tournament Friday through Sunday.
    The varsity took a twin bill from Selby on Friday 8-7 and 10-1 and the junior varsity team won a round robin tournament in Webster on Saturday, posting wins over Milbank 10-1, Sisseton 3-1, and Webster 12-0.
    The state tournament will include eight teams from Baltic, Leola-Frederick, Kimball-White Lake, Selby, Gregory, Tri-State, Wessington Springs, and Britton.  Pool play matchups for the Lumberjacks include Wessington Spring at 2:30 p.m. and Tri-County at 8:30 p.m. on Friday and Gregory at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.  Two bracket play games will be played at 4 and 6 p.m. Saturday with bracket play beginning again at 9 a.m. on Sunday.  The championship game will be played t 3 p.m. Sunday.

    Britton led 8-2 in the opener and weathered a five-run fifth inning rally to get the win and then returned the favor with a five-run outburst to begin the nightcap and cruised to the sweep.
    Mitchell Burger laced a double and knocked in two runs and Jack Teveldal added a double to lead Britton hitters in game one.  Lincoln Kilker added a base hit.  Emmett Symens pitched the first three innings, striking out five and allowing just one hit, to earn the win on the mound.
    In game two the local nine pounded out 14 hits, led by a four-hit night by Ben Suther that included a triple, double, two singles, and three RBI’s.  Chaz Vietor added a double and single, Lofton Heer singled twice, Teveldal doubled, Will Richter singled and had two RBI’s, and Burger, Colton Chapin, Kaden Mills, and Dylan Redler hit safeties.  Burger picked up the pitching win and struck out seven in six innings while allowing just four hits.  Vietor pitched an inning of no-hit relief.

Milbank 1
    Britton put together five-run rallies in both the first and fourth innings to roll past Milbank in the first round of the Webster round-robin tournament.
    Max Suther doubled, singled, and collected a pair of RBI’s, Liam Peters doubled and singled, and Blayden Downs rapped two singles to lead Britton’s 10-hit attack.  Luke Bosse, Levi Mills, Jackson Medhaug, and Joseph O’Brien added base hits.  Drew Heitmann went the distance on the mound, fanning six and giving up just three hits in five innings, and the local nine played errorless ball in the field.

Sisseton 1
    Britton pushed across a pair of second innings runs and then answered Sisseton’s single tally in the fourth for the win.
    Levi Mills was a force on the mound, giving up just a single hit, walking just one, and striking out nine in five frames.  Heitmann rapped a pair of singles and Downs, Liam Peters, and Mills had base hits.

Webster 0
    Britton scored six runs in the second inning to go up 8-0 and ended the game on the 10-run rule after four.
    Heitmann had two singles and two RBI’s, and Downs, Mills, Liam Peters, Bosse, Henry Kilker, and Cullen Peters each hit singles.  Liam Peters went the distance on the mound, striking out five, and Britton did not commit an error in the field.
