The Britton Public Library concluded its 2026 Summer Reading Program after six weeks of dinosaur-themed activities tied to this year’s “Unearth a Story” theme.
The program, which began in early June, featured weekly activities including excavating toy dinosaurs from ice and terra cotta eggs, creating dinosaur terrariums, drawing projects, outdoor games and story time focused on dinosaurs. During the final week, participants welcomed staff from Fort Sisseton, who shared information about historical artifacts and archaeology.
A total of 66 children registered for the program, with 52 participating by attending activities, logging reading minutes or both. Participants collectively read 24,610 minutes, or 410 hours and 17 minutes. By age group, children in prekindergarten through kindergarten logged 6,232 minutes, first- through third-grade students read 7,439 minutes and fourth- through eighth-grade students recorded 10,939 minutes.
The program concluded with a dinosaur-themed movie at the Strand Theater in Britton. Participants who attended activities or completed reading logs received free admission, popcorn and a small soda. A total of 54 people attended the movie.
Door prize winners were Riggin Smith (prekindergarten-kindergarten), Claire Nordquist (first-third grade) and Evannah Gronau (fourth-eighth grade).
Library officials thanked Fort Sisseton, the Strand Theater and Dollar General Corporation, which provid-ed a grant to support this year’s Summer Reading Program.
