VARSITY, JV NINES EARN WINS

    The Britton varsity baseball team swept a twin bill from Selby this past week and the junior varsity split doubleheaders with Sisseton and Groton.
    This week the varsity plays at Sisseton today (Wednesday) at 5:30 p.m. and hosts the Bring the Heat Classic on Sunday beginning at 8 a.m.  Next week Wednesday Frederick comes to town for a 6 p.m. twin bill.
    The JV schedule for this week includes the Bring the Heat Classic on Saturday starting at 8 a.m. in Britton and the local nine plays at Webster next week Wednesday.

Britton Varsity 6-11
Selby 5-0
    Britton erased a 5-2 deficit in the final inning with a four-run rally to take the opener and the local nine out-hit Selby 14-1 to earn the shutout in the nightcap.
    Dylan Redler doubled and singled and knocked in three runs to lead the opening win.  Carter Grobe added a pair of safeties, Ben Suther doubled, and Max Suther and Drew Heitmann had base hits.  Emmett Symens picked up the pitching win with two-thirds of an inning of relief.
    In game two    Ben Suther went the distance on the mound, allowing just a single hit and a pair of walks while striking out nine.  Suther also led his team at the plate with a double, two singles, and three RBI’s.  Mitchell Burger added a pair of singles, Lofton Heer had a single and two RBI’s, and Will Richter, Redler, Grobe, and Kaden Mills each laced safeties.  

Britton JV 5-4
Sisseton 1-8
    Britton came up with a pair of two-run innings and out-hit Sisseton 8-2 in game one and Sisseton took charge early in the nightcap with a five-run first frame.
    Max Suther rapped a double and two singles and collected two RBI’s to lead the local nine at the plate.  Luke Bosse added two safeties and Levi Mills, Drew Heitmann, and Joseph O’Brien each singled.  Mills went four innings on the mound and picked up the wn, fanning four.  Isaac Richter struck out the side in an inning of relief.
    Britton managed just two hits in the nightcap - singles by Jacob Folkman and Cullen Peters.  Bosse was tagged with the pitching loss.

Britton 8-3
Groton 3-9
    Britton broke a 3-3 tie with a five-run uprising in the sixth inning to take the opener and Groton turned the tables on the young Jacks by scoring six in the fourth inning of the second game to also break a 3-3 deadlock and get the split.
    Mills and Suther each singled twice and had two RBI’s, Mills added a pair of safeties, Heitmann doubled, and Liam Peters, Richter, and Blayden Downs each singled in the opening win.  Liam Peters picked up the pitching win in relief.  Britton also played errorless ball in the field.
    Downs, Heitmann, Corbin Dawson, Maverick Strong, and Jackson Medhaug each singled in the nightcap.  Folkman took the pitching loss.
