The Claremont VFW varsity baseball team swept a recent doubleheader from Frederick but the Legion club dropped three contests.
The VFW squad rolled past Frederick 17-3, 12-6, while the Legion nine lost to Sisseton 9-4 last week Monday and then fell to Volga 10-0 and Milbank 11-1 in the Milbank Heritage Tournament on Friday.

Claremont out-hit Frederick 15-2 with nine of those hits for extra bases and capped off the opener with a 10-run fifth inning and then broke a 6-6 tie in the nightcap with a six-run rally in the fourth frame.
Case Reints homered and singled and collected three RBI’s in the first game. Grant Cutler tripled and doubled and had three RBI’s, Chris Cutler tripled and doubled and knocked in two runs, Kassen Keough tripled, doubled, and singled, Carter Glines doubled and singled and had two RBI’s, Nick Cutler doubled, and Nate Schuller, Wes Morehouse, and Corbin McKae each singled. Keough went the distance on the mound, allowing just two hits and striking out 10.
In game two Frederick grabbed a 6-1 lead after one inning but the Honkers rallied with five in the third and six more in the fourth for the sweep. Morehouse laced a pair of singles and knocked in two runs, Grant Cutler doubled and had two RBI’s, Nick Cutler doubled, and Case Reints and McKane singled. Morehouse picked up the pitching win with four and two-thirds innings of relief, fanning nine and allowing just one hit.
