RESULTS UPDATED AS OF 8:30 WEDNESDAY MORNING
ELECTION RESULTS

                Unofficial local results have been counted for Tuesday’s primary and local elections. The following results are for Marshall County. 

                In the primary election for state and district offices. For Governor, the Republican primary was a tight race with county results as follows Larry Rhoden — 32% (235 votes); Toby Doeden  — 29% (210 votes); Dusty Johnson  — 25% (180 votes); Jon Hansen  — 14% (100 votes).

UPDATE WEDNESDAY MORING: Doeden placed first statewide, but failed to reach the 35% threshold needed to avoid a runoff. As a result, Doeden and Gov. Larry Rhoden, who finished second, will advance to a July 28 runoff election after U.S. Rep. Dusty Johnson and House Speaker Jon Hansen were eliminated from the race.

                For U.S. Senator, incumbent Mike Rounds bested his primary challenger. Rounds took  84% of the Marshall County vote (598 votes) compared to Justin McNeal’s 16% (110 votes).

                 For U.S. Representative, SD Attorney General Marty Jackley won over James Bialota, with Jackley taking 85% (589 votes) versus Bialota’s 15% (102 votes).

                For the State Representative in District 1, voters were allowed to select up to two Republican candidates in the primary. Marshall County results showed Nick Fosness at 41% (496 votes); Daniel Kjos — 32% (387 votes); Logan Manhart — 14% (166 votes); Keith Miller  — 13% (162 votes).  UPDATED: FOSNESS AND KJOS CAME OUT ON TOP DISTRICT WIDE WITH 30% AND 27% OF THE VOTE RESPECTIVELY TO MANHART AND MILLER'S 22% EACH OF THE VOTE. 

In local elections—

                For Britton-Hecla School Board, six candidates competed. Voters were allowed to select up to three candidates. Results were reported as: Amy Jo Vietor — 27% (565 votes); Jeff Christenson — 20% (408 votes); Angela Grupe —18 % (379 votes); Heather Landreth — 17% (342 votes); Heidi Eimers — 13% (275 votes); Jeanne Ahlgren — 5% (99 votes). (Results include Hecla precinct in Brown County).

                For Britton Ward 2 City Councilman, Torrey Jones received  54% (51 votes) topping Phil Pruitt — 46% (43 votes).

                For Britton Ward 3 City Councilman, Roger Cease came out over James Lang. Cease had 83% (94 votes) while Lang took — 17% (19 votes).

                 For Langford trustee, incumbent Orrie Jesz won with 66% (53 votes) over Micah Small — 34% (27 votes).

                Voter turnout in the county was strong at 44.83%, with 1,033 out of 2,304 registered voters casting ballots. A total of 137 ballots were mailed in or voted early at the auditor’s office as of Tuesday.

                Election results are not official until canvassed and certified.
