HIPPOLOGY TEAM KEEPS TROTTING TO SUCCESS

Team members competed in speeches and demonstrations, horse judging, hippology and quiz bowl events, with several individuals and teams earning awards and national qualifications.

    Members of the Sargent County Hippology team earned several top finishes during the North Dakota State 4-H Horse Competition held in April at North Dakota State University. Competitors participated in speeches and demonstrations, horse judging and hippology and team quiz bowls, with several individuals and teams earning awards and national qualifications.
    In the junior illustrated talk and demonstration division, Ella Ingvalson placed first, Alice Hopkins was second and Laura Delahoyde finished third. In the senior division, Lily Mundt earned first place and qualified for a trip to the Western National 4-H Roundup and National Western Stock Show in Denver next January. Alison Kottke placed second.
    Kottke also teamed with two Dickey County 4-H members to place second overall in horse judging and hippology. In the intermediate hippology division, Delahoyde, Hopkins, Daphne Bosse and Ingvalson placed first in horse judging, second in the exam portion and third overall as a team.
    In senior hippology competition, Mundt and Kottke teamed with Dickey County participants to place second as a team. Mundt also earned third place individual overall honors.
    In quiz bowl competition, Bosse placed sixth individually in the junior division. In the senior division, Mundt and Kottke teamed with Dickey County members to win first place and qualify for nationals. Mundt was also named “Head of the Herd” and received a Lignite Coal Bison statue while earning high individual honors in the senior quiz bowl competition.
