MC COMMISSION: BUSY WITH ZONING ACTION

    The Marshall County Commission met Tuesday morning. In highway updates, Highway Superintendent Dustin Hofland reported that the asphalt plant is expected to be set up at the beginning of June, after which hot mix will be available for patching work. He noted that Jim Eye raised a concern regarding truck traffic on County Road 4, no action was taken on the matter however. Additionally, load limits had recently been removed from county roads.
    Commissioners scheduled a budget planning meeting to ensure work could be completed prior to the Director of Equalization’s, upcoming maternity leave.
    In action involving the State’s Attorney’s Office, commissioners approved hiring Brynn Samson as a summer intern at a rate of $13 per hour. Royview Country Club was approved for a malt beverage license.
    Officials announced that Amy Fox was hired as the new deputy treasurer and will begin May 27. They also accepted the resignation of Kristin Pester, who served as courthouse and community building cleaner.
    The commission entered executive session for contract negotiations with no action taken. 
    In zoning matters, several variances were approved, including requests from Rick and Myra Sommers and James Rabenberg in Lake Township and Anita Patterson in Stena Township.
    A drainage request from Kirk Rabenberg in Waverly Township was also approved.
    The board approved the Madi Neiber Addition plat in Newport Township.
    In additional action, the revision of the county zoning regulations and the Marshall County Comprehensive Plan were both recommended for approval to the county commission following motion and roll call votes. The first reading of both items is scheduled for the June 4 meeting.
    Approved building permits included Darin Roehr in Weston Township; Terri Glodrey, Myra Sommers (variance), James A. Rabenberg (variance), and Anita Patterson (variance) in Lake Township; Corey Schmieg in Pleasant Valley Township; and Ralph Schmidt in Pleasant Valley Township.
    Under other business, the board discussed properties with previously assigned project deadlines as well as properties exempt from building permit fees. No formal action was taken on either item.
