THINCLADS WIN 12 LEAGUE EVENTS
Britton-Hecla’s Jaelee Grupe won high jump titles in both the Northeast Conference and Eastern Coteau Conference meets and ranks 10th in the state among Class A jumpers.

Britton-Hecla’s track squad brought home second place honors in both the boys and girls divisions of the Eastern Coteau Conference Meet held in Britton last week Tuesday and earned a pair of fifth place finishes in the Northeast Conference event held in Milbank on Thursday.
Coach Stephanie Symens’ squad had two meets remaining in the regular season to try to earn state qualifying spots, traveling to Warner today (Wednesday) for a meet that was postponed from Monday due to weather, and competing at Webster on Thursday.  The Class A athletes and relays with the top 24 times/distances in the state will earn spots in the state meet in Sioux Falls May 28-30.
“Our athletes posted good times at both of our conference meets,” said Symens.  “We’ve got two more track meets to try and get our athletes in the top 24. Hopefully we can have good weather to finish out the season.”
Britton-Hecla won five NEC titles with Abby Lee taking both the long jump and triple jump.  Chaz Vietor and Jaelee Grupe both were high jump champions and the boys medley relay quartet of Drew Heitmann, Jaxon Zuehlke, Ben Suther, and Jack Teveldal won their event.
Two relays and five individuals won ECC titles and Ben Suther was named the meet’s outstanding male athlete, teaming up with Zuehlke, Heitmann, and Teveldal to win the 1600 relay and also taking the 200 dash title.  The girls 400 relay of Marley Sundin, Elsa Bosse-Faulhaber, Ailyn Lee, and Abby Lee were ECC champs, and claiming individual titles were Teveldal in the 800 run, Joseph O’Brien in the 1600 run, Grupe in the high jump, and Abby Lee in triple jump.
Britton-Hecla currently is ranked among the Class A top 24 in 10 events.  The boys relay quartet of Jaxon Zuehlke, Drew Heitmann, Ben Suther, and Jack Teveldal are three-time qualifiers, ranking 12th in the 3200, 15th in the 1600, and 17th in the medley.  Zuehlke also is 17th in javelin and Teveldal 19th in the 800 run.  Chaz Vietor is the other boy among the top tracksters, standing 18th in hi gh jump.
