The Langford Area track squad is heading down the home stretch of its season, competing in the Lake Region Conference meet last week Tuesday in Ipswich, traveling to Warner today (Wednesday) in a meet postponed from Monday due to weather, and wrapping up the regular season at Webster on Thursday.
LA’s junior high tracksters also competed in the LRC meet.
Paytyn Marlow was the only individual LRC champion, winning the 100-meter dash. LA thinclads will have two more meets to earn spots in the state meet set for Sioux Falls May 28-30. The top 24 times/distances in each event in Class B will earn state berths.
“We really had to battle the windy conditions at Ipswich,” said LA boss Brian Schuring. “However, it affected all the schools participating so we had no choice but to go and do the best we could. The Lions had a good day and we were able to score some points and get some PR’s. This week we are looking to get some more times, jumps and throws in to improve our chances to qualify for state.”
Currently LA is ranked among the top 24 in five girls events and one boys event. Paytyn Marlow is fourth in the 100 dash, 15th in the 200 dash, and 19th in long jump, and she has teamed up with Brooke Dwight, Bailey Dwight, and Lizzie Gustafson to rank eighth in the 400 relay. Sophia Rodriguez is 24th in the 100 hurdles, and Skyler Godel is 21st in the 300 hurdles.
