The Langford Area boys golf squad competed in the Region 1B tournament at the Lee Park Golf Course in Aberdeen on Monday.
Dan Horter led the Lions, carding a 98 to finish in the 29th spot. Bradyn Small was 44th with a 110, Dawson Vander Vorst 51st with a 119, and Conner Glines 54th with aa 124.
“The weather wasn’t in the favor of golfers on Monday, but our golfers made the best of it and did what they could,” said LA coach Michael Alberts. “All of our golfers improved a lot during the season. I thought we golfed more consistently, and I thought we got better at our short game. I hope they continue golfing over the summer to get better for next year.”
The top 24 individuals and top two teams in regional play advanced to the state Class B tournament at the Brookings Country Club June 1-2. LA finished 12th in the 15-team field.
The LA golfers wrapped up regular season play in Ipswich on Thursday, battling very strong winds. Dane Horter carded a 96 and Carter Glines a 116 for the boys and Maddie Knebel had a 187 in the girls’ division.
“This meet, like all the other meets, we really had to battle the weather, this time the wind,” noted Alberts. “The kids learned they had to keep the ball lower and drive it into the wind.”
