The Langford Area Board of Education met Monday, hearing senior internship presentations and taking action on several matters, including hiring an Activities Director.
One of the main discussion points was the district’s school bus service. With ongoing difficulty finding drivers, Superintendent Shad Storley reported he is still exploring contracted transportation options. Estimates are being gathered from three companies—in Webster and Miller, and Harlowe’s—to determine potential costs, and the issue will return for further discussion at a future meeting.
The board also received an update on the bleacher removal project. Officials said no bids were received for removing the old bleachers in time for summer sports camps, though there has been some interest expressed. The district is continuing to reach out for possible parties, with hopes to begin work after graduation.
In other business, the board approved applying for a new credit card through Associated School Boards of South Dakota and cast votes on South Dakota High School Activities Association matters. Several surplus items were also approved, including English textbooks and a custodial equipment list.
Following an executive session to discuss personnel matters, the board approved the hiring of Kellie Alberts as the district’s new Activities Director. Alberts will work alongside outgoing AD Brett Gibbs during a transition period.
