APPARENTLY I CAN'T BE LEFT ALONE IN ABERDEEN

APPARENTLY I CAN'T BE LEFT ALONE IN ABERDEEN

On Thursday, I had my 20-week baby checkup, and I was so excited! With the girls, I had ultrasounds every month because I was considered a high-risk pregnancy, so this time around I haven’t gotten to see this little bean nearly as much. The night before, I could barely sleep because I was so nervous.
We decided to do testing early to make sure everything looked healthy, but of course we were also so excited to find out the baby’s gender. Chase was able to come to most of my appointments with the girls, but with this pregnancy I’ve been a lot more independent and have gone to many of the appointments by myself. Since we know what to expect this time around, I felt more confident going in solo, but honestly, it’s still nerve-racking being there alone.
The ultrasound tech was very quiet because she had so many measurements to get through, and the silence definitely started getting to me. My mind kept racing with questions like, “Is the heartbeat okay?” and “Is the baby measuring on schedule?” I had to wait for the doctor to go over everything, and thankfully baby was growing perfectly and everything was right on track.
I knew the gender before this appointment but it was still exciting to see baby grow. I’ll back up my story a little. A couple of weeks ago I was sitting at my desk when I got a notification that some of our test results were in. I wasn’t expecting the gender results to come back so quickly, but when I opened them, there it was. No party, no big reveal, just me sitting at my desk crying happy tears. Haha.
I knew I wanted to make the moment special for Chase. After work, I stopped at the store, bought a single colored balloon, and headed to the hospital where he works. The second I walked in, he looked at the balloon with total confusion… and then instantly broke into the biggest smile when he realized what it meant.
    “IT’S A BOY!” he yelled.
We couldn’t be more excited. Of course, our biggest wish was simply for a healthy baby no matter the gender, but with two girls already, we were definitely hoping for a little boy.
So, baby boy was looking great at his 20-week appointment, which meant Momma could finally relax a little. Since I was already in Aberdeen, I decided I deserved a little shopping trip for myself.
First stop: Runnings, where I finally bought the pair of boots I’d been eyeing for months. And then… I heard them. The unmistakable peeping of baby chicks.
Oh no. Not again. I swear those little things have a direct line to my heart,  and absolutely no respect for my self-control or check book. I called the hubby and said, “Hey… can I get a couple baby chicks?” His response: “Sure, whatever. Just two though, okay?”
I knew I still had more shopping to do, so I told myself I’d come back for them later. That’s when I remembered there was a pickup in town I had seen online a couple weeks earlier. I figured there was no way it was still available, but I thought, “Doesn’t hurt to look.”
Well… it was still there. And somehow, “just looking” quickly turned into making a deal.
So naturally, I had to call the hubby back. He answered, and I said, “So… you know how I called an hour ago about the baby chicks?” At this point, he’s probably preparing himself to hear that I came home with twelve chickens instead of two. Instead, I said, “Well… I didn’t buy the chickens.” Silence. “I bought a pickup instead.”
“WHAT?!” We’ll… the price was right and we needed a second vehicle! It’s his fault he left me unsupervised in Aberdeen.
So by the end of the day, baby boy was healthy, my feet had brand-new cowboy boots, and I was driving home in a matching pickup. Honestly, I’d call that a pretty successful day.
