SBW REMAINS PERFECT

Postseason Play Set To Begin Wednesday
SBW REMAINS PERFECT
The SBW baseball team is scheduled to begin postseason play on Wednesday. Team.members in front left to right are Head Coach Mark Nelson, Will Richter, Carter Stickland, Jack Teveldal, Levi Nelson, Drew Heitmann, and Assistant Coach Leigh Wallenstein. Back row Dylan Redler, Max Dahlen, Colton Chapin, Rylan Anderson, Ben Suther, Mitch Burger, Chaz Vietor, Kaden Mills, and LJ Crooks.

The Sisseton-Britton-Webster high school baseball team posted three more wins in the past week and will be seeking to wrap up a perfect regular season at Milbank today (Wednesday) beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Coach Mark Nelson’s club blanked Deuel 16-0 last week Wednesday and swept Redfield in a twin bill at Sisseton on Sunday 8-2 and 10-7 to boost its season mark to 14-0.  The Mallards are scheduled to begin postseason play next Wednesday with pairings to be announced on Monday.

The Mallards took charge early in Clear Lake, scoring six runs in the opening inning and allowing just a single Deuel hit in a contest that ended after four frames.
Kaden Mills allowed just a single hit through three innings and fanned four batters without giving up a walk to earn the pitching win.  Carter Stickland pitched a perfect inning of relief and struck out two.
Ben Suther had a monster game at the plate, going 3-3 with three doubles and six RBI’s to lead the Mallards’ 12-hit attack.  Levi Nelson was 3-4 with a triple, two singles, and a pair of RBI’s.  Stickland, Rylan Anderson, Jack Teveldal, Mills, Dylan Redler, and Will Richter all singled.  SBW also took advantage of eight walks and stole nine bases.
“Kaden did a nice job on the hill for us and we got some offense from the top of our lineup, which is always nice,” said Nelson.  “We again managed to have a lot of base runners and were able to plate runs early.”

SBW used a couple of big innings on the way to a doubleheader sweep of Redfield.
A four-run fourth frame in the opener broke open a tight 2-1 contest and the Mallards took charge in the nightcap when they exploded for six runs in the sixth to break out of a 4-4 tie.
“We got a two-game sweep against a scrappy and athletic Redfield team,” noted Nelson.  “We had timely hitting and the bottom of our lineup was very productive. Carter Stickland had a couple of nice rips in the first game and Mitch Burger did the same in the second contest.  Colton Chapin and Ben Suther also hit the ball well.  This team continues to string together some extra base hits.”
Four SBW pitchers struck out 13 batters and allowed just five hits in the seven-inning opener.  Ben Suther started on the mound, pitching two and two-thirds innings and giving up just three hits while fanning six to earn the win.  Rylan Anderson pitched two and a third in relief, striking out four, Chaz Vietor hurled an inning and Mills finished up, striking out the side.
Suther and Stickland both ripped a pair of doubles and Richter and Redler each added a two-bagger.  Chapin and Burger each singled and Burger added a pair of stolen bases.  Levi Nelson collected a pair of RBI’s.  The Mallards used six walks and 10 stolen bases to help keep Redfield at bay.
The Mallards found themselves in an unusual situation in game two, trailing Redfield 3-1 after two innings.  But a Chapin double and Burger two-run single sparked a three-run third inning for a 4-3 Mallards lead.  Redfield answered with a run in the fourth to set up SBW’s tie-breaking six-run rally in the sixth, led by Suther’s three-run double.
Chapin ripped a double and single and collected two RBI’s, Burger singled twice and knocked in three tallies, Suther doubled and had a pair of RBI’s, Anderson singled twice, and Nelson laced a safety.
LJ Crooks started on the mount and Vietor picked up the pitching win with three innings of relief.  Mills again struck out the side in the final inning.
