The Britton-Hecla track squad competed in a pair of meets in the past week, traveling to Milbank last week Tuesday and Sisseton on Friday.
Coach Stephanie Symens’ squad hosted the Eastern Coteau Conference meet yesterday (Tuesday).  This week the local thinclads will compete in the Northeast Conference meet in Milbank on Thursday starting at 2 p.m. and will travel to Warner for an 11 a.m. start on Monday.
“Even though it was cold and windy in Milbank, we had several personal bests that day,” said Symens.  “I was very happy with how the kids stepped up and performed in that type of weather.  The Sisseton meet was much better. We posted some more good records and are getting to where we need to be towards the end of the season.”
B-H had a couple of double winners at Milbank.  The relay quartet of Jaxon Zuehlke, Drew Heitmann, Ben Suther, and Jack Teveldal took both the 1600 and 3200 events, while Abby Lee won both the long jump and triple jump.  Jaelee Grupe also won the high jump.
At Sisseton local athletes brought home 11 event titles.  Abby Lee again took both the long and triple jump and Grupe won the high jump.  Livia Knecht was the 1600 run winner.  Jaxon Zuehlke won the javelin, Chaz Vietor was the high jump winner,  Joseph O’Brien took the 1600 run, and Carter Nelson the discus.
Britton-Hecla won four relay titles with the girls winning three.  Marley Sundin, Elsa Bosse-Faulhaber, Ailyn Lee, and Abby Lee teamed up to win the 400 relay, Daynika Zuehlke, Bosse-Faulhaber, Grace Folkman, and Abby Lee won the 1600, and Sundin, Ailyn Lee, Bosse-Faulhaber, and Zuehlke earned medley relay honors.
As of Monday Britton-Hecla currently ranks among the top 24 in Class A in six individual events and two relays.  At the conclusion of the regular season the top 24 in each event will advance to the state meet.
Among the top 24 are Abby Lee, third in triple jump and 12th in long jump, Jaelee Grupe and Chaz Vietor both 12th in high jump, Daynika Zuehlke 13th in javelin, and Ailyn Lee 22nd in triple jump.  The relay quarter of Jaxon Zuehlke, Ben Suther, Jack Teveldal, and Drew Heitmann ranks 17th in both the 1600 and 3200 events.
