The Langford Area golf squad competed in the pre-region meet at the Lee Park Golf Course in Aberdeen on Monday and will be on the same course for the Region 1B meet this coming Monday.
The top 40% of individuals and top two teams in regional play will advance to the Class B state tournament at the Edgebroook Golf Course in Brookings June 1-2. Coach Michael Alberts’ squad also competed at the Lake Region Conference meet held April 30.
Bradyn Small was the top LA finisher in the pre-region, placing 26th in the 71-golfer field with a 91. Dane Horter was 38th at 96, Carter Glines 46th with a 99, Conner Glines 49th at 101, and Dawson VanderVorst 52nd at 104. Competing for the Lions on Monday in the regional will be Small, Horter, Conner Glines, and VanderVorst.
“It was really nice to see the things we have been working on show up in the meet,” said Alberts. “We still want to be a little better at our short game, but overall, it was the best we have golfed so far and we played with a lot more consistency.”
VanderVorst was the top placer at the LRC meet, wining a tie-breaker over teammate Horter for 10th after both golfers shot a 97. Conner Glines finished with as 108 and Small had a 115.
Two LA golfers competed in the junior varsity division. Carter Glines carded a 71 and Maddie Knebel had a 78.
“The conference meet was the first one where we were able to take just about everyone,” said Alberts. “Dane and Bradyn were able to golf for the first time at a meet this year, so it was good to see where they were at. I saw our kids improve on things that we were able to work on from our last meet. Hopefully we’ll be playing our best for the region.”
