Boots, peppermint treats and horses were all part of a recent learning opportunity at Wheatcrest Hills Healthcare Center, where six Sargent County 4-H members shared horse-related demonstrations and speeches with residents.
The visit gave residents a chance to engage with the youth presenters, many of whom focused their projects on various aspects of horsemanship. Residents also shared their own experiences with 4-H and horses during the program.
Among the presentations, Lily Mundt demonstrated different types of horse “boots” in a presentation titled “These Boots Are Made For….” Daphne Bosse gave a speech titled “Jubilee,” while Ella Ingvalson demonstrated how to make horse treats in “Aurora’s Stable Sweets.” Alice Hopkins presented “How to Draw a Rearing Horse,” Laura Delahoyde spoke on training her colt in “Wild to Willing,” and Alison Kottke shared experiences working with her young horse in a presentation titled “Sunny.”
A highlight of the visit came when resident Jay Slater shared a personal photo on an iPad showing himself leading his horse alongside his sister riding.
4-H leader Julie Hassebroek said the event provided valuable practice for the students ahead of the North Dakota State 4-H Horse Contest, scheduled for April 10. “We are grateful for the opportunity for the girls to polish their presentations,” she said.
