LA PLACES AT HOWARD WOOD

LA PLACES AT HOWARD WOOD
Langford Area’s 400-meter girls relay team placed eighth at the Howard Wood Relays in Sioux Falls last weekend and broke its own school record in the process. Members of the relay quartet, pictured with Coach Brian Schuring, from left to right are Paytyn Marlow, Brooke Dwight, Bailey Dwight, and Lizzie Gustafson.

The Langford Area track squad competed in three meets during the past week, traveling to Groton Area last week Tuesday, Sisseton on Friday, and four athletes competed in three events at the Howard Wood Relays in Sioux Falls Friday and Saturday.
This week LA competed at  Milbank yesterday (Tuesday), travels to Sisseton on Friday, and will compete in the Lake Region Conference meet in Ipswich on Tuesday.
The highlight of the week was an eighth place finish for the girls 400 relay quartet at Howard Wood.  The foursome of Paytyn Marlow, Brooke Dwight, Bailey Dwight, and Lizzie Gustafson broke its own school record at the meet with a 52.07 clocking.  Marlow also competed in the 100 dash.
LA event winners in last week’s meets included Marlow in the 100 dash at Groton and Skyler Godel in the 300 hurdles in Sisseton.
“We battled the elements a little bit, however, still were able to get good results with PR’s at Groton,” said LA coach Brian Schuring.  “We didn’t have our full team at Sisseton because we took some athletes to Howard Wood, but the athletes that went to Sisseton competed hard and are improving each meet, which is what we are striving for.  And the girls we took to Howard Wood ran well in an environment that is similar to the state track meet.”

Poll: TEACHER PAY OKAY?South Dakota ranks 46th in the nation in average teacher pay, according to a new report from the National Education Association, with the state’s average salary at $58,486 for the 2024–25 school year. While that reflects a 3.8% increase from the previous year, education advocates note recent funding increases may not fully keep pace with inflation or long-term salary needs. Do you feel teacher pay in South Dakota is adequate, or should it be raised?
