The Britton-Hecla boys golf squad topped a five-team field to claim the team title in the Florence-Henry Invitational played at the Prairie Winds Golf Course in Watertown on Thursday.
Britton-Hecla also competed at Eureka on Saturday in a nine-hole event but results were not available. This week Coach Ryan Nack’s squad will host the Northeast Conference Tournament on Friday beginning at 10 a.m. and Monday will compete in the pre-region meet at Lee Park Golf Course in Aberdeen starting at 9 a.m.
“We’ve been pretty consistent but we still need to put our full game together,” said Nack. “Keys for us are to tighten up some of our shots, get on the green, and shave a few putts here and there. It’s just the little things we need to clean up and I think we’re steering in the right direction.”
The Braves fired a three-man score of 253 to top Doland at 268, followed by Great Plains Lutheran with a 288, Florence-Henry 307, and Waubay-Summit 379. Waverlyl-South Shore and Wilmot also participated but did not have enough golfers to qualify as a team.
B-H sophomore Lofton Heer earned medalist honors in a 28-golfer field with a five-over-par 77. Jace Rein was third with an 83, Charles Schuller sixth at 93, Nate Schuller 14th at 105, Ben Folkman 19th at 110, and Bowen Micko 18th at 111.
Just two B-H golfers competed in the girls’ division. Sage Ford placed fourth among 13 golfers with a 114 and Chellon Pruitt was sixth at 117. Waverly- South Shore won the girls team title with a 360 total and Great Plains Lutheran was second at 377 with those two teams the only ones fielding full squads.
