B-H BOARD OKS OUTSIDE TRAINER

B-H BOARD OKS OUTSIDE TRAINER

The Britton-Hecla Board of Education met Monday night, advancing plans for long-term district goal setting while also addressing staffing updates and routine business.
Board members continued discussion on bringing in an outside trainer to assist with district planning. The proposed process would include an external review of academics, school culture and operations, with the goal of identifying strengths and areas for improvement. The board agreed to move forward by contacting potential trainers and setting up an initial meeting, likely after newly elected board members take their seats this summer.
In staffing matters, the board approved Rachelle Kilker as an extended school year teacher for the summer and finalized a working agreement with Madison Pena to come on as nutrition staff. Several resignations were also accepted, including Amber Key, a teacher at Westwood Colony; Adam Suther, junior high football coach; and Josh Hawkinson, high school wrestling coach.
The board also established two committees to address upcoming needs. An interview committee will begin the process of hiring a new business manager, as the current business manager Madison Neiber is set to conclude duties on June 30. A separate salary schedule committee was formed to develop a more uniform pay structure for the district moving forward.
Contracts for certified staff members were approved as part of the meeting.
Within the consent agenda, board members approved insurance coverage despite a 22 percent increase in premiums, along with vision and dental plans. The annual membership resolution for the South Dakota High School Activities Association was also approved.
The board approved three open enrollment applications for incoming students from the Langford, Sisseton and Sargent Central school districts.
