The Britton-Hecla Board of Education met in special session last Friday, taking action on a previously discussed issue involving Westwood Colony School.
Following continued discussions with Westwood Colony officials, who reiterated their desire to transition to a private school, the board voted unanimously to close the school at the conclusion of the 2025-26 school year. The school currently serves 49 students.
Regarding the impact to district employees, one colony teacher is planning to retire, while other employees have been offered or will be reassigned to positions within the district in town.
The board also entered into a 45-minute executive session for negotiation and personnel matters. Following the session, members voted to accept the resignation of Business Manager Madisyn Neiber, effective June 30. Neiber has served in the role since 2024.
The next regular meeting of the board is scheduled for April 13.
