More than 75 youth and supporters enjoyed the opportunity to learn more about state history and government during the 2026 4-H Capitol Day on Feb. 20 including local 4-Hers.
Hosted by South Dakota State University Extension 4-H, the annual event provides the chance for 4-H youth, volunteers and staff to spend a day at the South Dakota Capitol, interact with state legislators and employees and tour the historic Capitol building.
Throughout the day, attendees joined public bill committee hearings, took Capitol tours led by 4-H staff, engaged in outdoor education and STEM hands-on learning experiences and enjoyed an ice cream social with elected officials.
4-H Ambassadors also had the opportunity to shadow a legislator throughout the day, and all attendees could participate in an interactive scavenger hunt where they were tasked with learning about South Dakota’s history and the Capitol complex. Marshall County Ambassador Baylee Bender and Day County Ambassador Adaline Larson were in attendance at the event.
