The Marshall County Commission met Tuesday morning, addressing a range of county matters, from local infrastructure to community services.
The board met with Marshall County Food Pantry directors Russ and Marie Marlow to discuss a possible relocation within the Community Building. The pantry may move to the southeast corner of the building, formerly occupied by the community nurse and sheriff’s department. In its current location, space is limited, especially when larger food shipments arrive. Commissioner Jason Bender said he will investigate generator load limits and electricity availability in the proposed area, with further discussion planned for a future meeting.
Highway Superintendent Dustin Hofland updated the board on county road projects. He said the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks has approached the county about cost-sharing for improvements along a 3.8-mile stretch of the Fort Road. Hofland will review the county’s portion of funding. The commission also reviewed the project priority list for the coming year, including sending chip seal work for County Roads 1 and 2 out for bid, and possibly County Road 4 or asphalt repairs. Hofland will also inspect culverts suggested by Jerry Burger, who was in attendance.
Annual highway bids were also opened. See next week’s full meeting minutes for the details of the bids.
The board held the Legislative Audit Engagement Conference for the 2024-2025 audit with Kasie Ingraham, a preliminary step in the auditing process.
Other actions included approving a $2,000 contribution to the North Marshall Fire Department for use of their meeting room during construction, accepting the resignation of Sheriff’s Deputy Slade Owen, and asking State’s Attorney Victor Rapkoch to draft a speed limit resolution for County Road 4 (Kidder Road) near the railroad tracks, proposing a limit of 25 mph.
The commission held executive sessions for personnel and contract negotiations but took no action.
