
Five Britton-Hecla basketball players have been named to Eastern Coteau All-Conference teams and B-H boys coach Troy Knecht was selected as Coach of the Year.
The Braves won the boys’ league championship with a 5-1 record, winning a tiebreaker with Waubay-Summit based on head-to-head results. Senior guard Will Richter was a first team selection. Senior Jaxon Zuehlke and sophomore Chaz Vietor were named to the second team.
Rounding out the boys’ honor squad were ECC Most Valuable Player sophomore Hogan Hlavacek and sophomore teammate Jace Wohlleber of Waubay-Summit; sophomore Carson Kelly of Florence-Henry; junior Wylie Rydell of Tri-State; and senior Kyle Kneeland of Waverly-South Shore.
Other second team picks included senior Jarrett Bauer and sophomore Isaac Kjenstad of Great Plains Lutheran; sophomore Spencer Ries of Waverly-South Shore; and senior Ethan Schwenn of Wilmot.
Britton-Hecla sophomore Chellon Pruitt was a first team selection to the All-ECC girls team, while junior Daynika Zuehlke was a second team pick.
Other first team members included sophomores Ashlynn Vavruska and Ana Byer of Florence-Henry; senior Katherine Prahl and junior Julia Prahl of Great Plains Lutheran; junior Addison Heinje of Waubay-Summit; and senior Jolene Krantz of Waverly-South Shore.
Also named to the second team were senior Liza Purdy and junior Caley Boik of Waubay-summit; freshman Taylyn Thomas of Tri-State; and junior Carlee Mushitz and sophomore Jaina Johnson of Waverly-South Shore.
Heinje was named the league’s most valuable player and Kelsey Hannigan of Waverly-South Shore is the Coach of the Year. Waubay-summit was the league title with a perfect 6-0 mark, while Britton-Hecla finished at 2-4 and was fifth in the seven-team conference.
