The Langford Area girls basketball team put an end to a three-game slide with wins over Britton-Hecla 48-36 and Wilmot 60-25 on Friday and Saturday.
Coach Michael Alberts’ unit took a 10-7 mark into a makeup game with Tiospa Zina last night Tuesday. This week the Lady Lions play at Faulkton in a doubleheader with the boys’ team on Friday (varsity only, girls 6 p.m., boys to follow) and host Aberdeen Christian in another doubleheader on Tuesday (JV boys 4 p.m., JV girls, varsity boys, varsity girls to follow).
“Our focus over the last week has been getting to play faster, especially on the defensive end,” said Alberts. “I think we got better at playing faster the last two games. Against B-H we were getting to our spots better defensively and offensively we were able to hit some shots. Britton-Hecla did a good job of switching up their defense in the second half, making it hard for us to get much going in the third quarter, but we were able to get some easy looks at the basket once we figured out how to attack their defense.
“Against Wilmot, we did a really good job pressuring them into turnovers,” added Alberts. “We were able to get some easy looks off of turnovers, and we did a really good job of passing and setting other girls up to score in this game. We hope to keep carrying this momentum forward for the rest of our season.”

Six of Langford Area’s 10 first half baskets were of the three-point variety that propelled the Lady Lions to a 26-14 lead at intermission, and Britton-Hecla was never able to quite dig out of that hole.
B-H grabbed a 9-6 lead with with 2:20 remaining in the opening quarter but LA’s Brynn Samson triggered a 20-5 run over the next 10 minutes that included last-second treys from Alex Darling to end both the first and second quarters, along with a pair of three-pointers from Paytyn Marlow. Britton-Hecla hung around in the second half but could never come all the way back.
Marlow topped LA scorers with 14, Darling added 11, and Jensen nine.
