The Britton-Hecla wrestling squad finished seventh in a loaded 17-team field at Redfield on Saturday and swept three dual matches at a quadrangular hosted by Warner-Northwestern on Friday.
Coach Josh Hawkinson’s crew will host its only home matches of the season on Thursday when Sisseton, Deuel, and Webster Area come to town with action getting underway at 5 p.m.
“I felt we wrestled really well at Redfield and I was pleased with how the kids did in a tough tournament against that caliber of kids,” said Hawkinson. “I feel like we are hitting our stride at the right time of the year, and I think the kids feel it, too.”
The Braves will face some stiff competition on Thursday for the home fans.
“We will have three fairly tough duals with three teams that have the majority of their weight classes filled and we will see some good kids,” noted Hawkinson. “The key for us will be to keep on wrestling like we have been with confidence.”
Hawkinson expects Max Suther to be back in the lineup after battling an injury but the squad is still going through some sickness.
Seven B-H wrestlers placed among the top five in the Redfield tournament. Bryce Hawkinson (22-5) led the way with a second place finish at 150 pounds. Ben Suther (28-6) was third at 175; placing fourth were Lincoln Kilker (28-16) at 106, Colton Chapin (21-11) at 157, Tucker Hardy (30-9) at 190, and Henry Kilker (20-18) at 106B; and Tanner Atkinson (21-13) was fifth at 138.
