Langford Area came out on the short end of a pair of contests in the past week, falling to Waubay-Summit 67-38 on Monday and Northwestern 45-36 on Friday.
This week the Lions, now 2-11, will travel to cross-county rival Britton-Hecla on Friday for a doubleheader with the girls’ squad (JV boys, girls 5 p.m., girls varsity, boys varsity to follow) and on Saturday will play a twin bill at Wilmot (JV girls 1 p.m., JV boys, varsity girls, varsity boys to follow).
Waubay-Summit 67
Langford Area 38
Waubay-Summit jumped out to a 21-8 lead after one period and Langford Area was not able to dig out of that hole.
“We played a really good Waubay-Summit team on their court, which was a challenge for us,” said Coach Brian Schuring. “They are a strong team physically and play well together. We have been battling with sickness and injuries lately, which didn’t make it any easier. We played hard and we had good effort, which under the circumstances was all we could ask for. “
Kassen Keough led the Lions with 26 points. Graydon Hurley and Gunner Hardy each pulled down six rebounds.
Northwestern 45
Langford Area 36
Langford Area shaved a 12-point halftime deficit to eight after three periods but Northwestern held on for the win.
“The boys fought hard against Northwestern and showed some true grit,” said Schuring. “After falling behind big in the first quarter, we battled back to make it a game. Proud of the team and not giving up on each other. We improved our defense, rebounding and team play, which was nice to see.”
Kassen Keough notched 13 points for LA and Eli Samson chipped in with 10. Ethen Olson grabbed 11 rebounds and Keough pulled down seven and had three assists.
