LADY BRAVES SPLIT

Host LA On Friday
LADY BRAVES SPLIT
Britton-Hecla’s Koryn Jones drove to the basket against an Aberdeen Roncalli defender on Friday. The Lady Braves host cross-county rival Langford Area on Friday.

The Britton-Hecla girls basketball squad split a pair of contests in the past week, stopping Leola-Frederick 44-37 last week Tuesday and falling to Aberdeen Roncalli 58-15 on Friday.
Coach Terry Nelson’s crew took a 4-9 record into a game with Sisseton last night Tuesday.  This week the Lady Braves host Langford Area on Friday (JV boys, girls 5 p.m., varsity girls, varsity boys to follow) and play a doubleheader with the boys’ team against Clark-Willow Lake in Clark on Tuesday.
“Our focus is to try to get better before the season is over with some tough games coming up,” stressed Nelson.  “We want to play tough team defense, get better at the free throw line, cut down on our turnovers, and make our shots underneath the basket.”

Britton-Hecla 44
Leola-Frederick 37

Britton-Hecla weathered a couple of charges from Leola-
Frederick and scored a wire-to-wire win over the Titans.
The two clubs were tied at 12-all after one period before the Lady Braves put together a 12-5 second period run for a 24-17 lead at intermission.  Chellon Pruitt, who scored a game-high 21 points, and Maddi Micko hit three buckets each to provide the firepower during the run.
Pruitt started the second half strong with a three-point play and base line jumper to boost the Lady Braves’ lead to 30-21, but the Titans clawed back to cut that margin to 30-25.  Daynika Zuehlke responded with a trey and Pruitt hit another fielder for a 35-27 lead before LF closed to 35-31 at the quarter break.
B-H responded again with a 7-0 run with five points from Koryn Jones and two from Pruitt go up by 11.  L-F kept things interesting with back-to-back treys to cut the lead to 42-37 with 2:12 remaining but did not score again.
Pruitt and Karlie Zuehlke led the Lady Braves on the boards with 10 each and Daynika Zuehlke dished out eight assists.
