“How many bones are in a horse’s body?!” If you ask Brooklynn Bosse, she will answer you in less than 5 seconds, “205!” Quick thinking and a fast buzzer is what it takes to excel at Horse Quiz Bowl — and Brooklynn has both!
Brooklynn, the daughter of Lindsay and Brent Bosse of Cogswell, recently competed in the 4-H Western National Roundup Horse Quiz Bowl, held in Denver during the National Western Stock Show. She was the eighth-high individual, and her team placed third overall in the contest.
Brooklynn was honored to join the Pierce County team. They teamed up in 2025 and won the ND State 4-H Horse Quiz Bowl, earning the opportunity to compete nationally.
Horse Quiz Bowl is a competitive, game-show-style event where youth teams answer questions about equine science, management and the horse industry using buzzers to gain points. Similar to Jeopardy, teams buzz in to answer “toss-up” questions, with bonus rounds offering additional points. Topics include anatomy, nutrition, breeds and tack. The program builds teamwork and self-confidence while testing knowledge.
“It was an experience I will never forget; I was so thrilled to place eighth!” Brooklynn said. She added that her favorite part of the trip was getting to know and working with the girls from Pierce County, who treated her like a lifelong friend.
Brooklynn would like to thank the ND 4-H Foundation and all who contributed to helping defray the cost of her trip.
