LADY LIONS WIN SEVENTH

LADY LIONS WIN SEVENTH
Langford Area’s Alex Darling drove the base line in recent girls basketball play. Darling notched a total of 43 points in the Lady Lions’ three games in the past week.

Hankinson, ND, snapped Langford Area’s five-game win streak but the Lady Lions tacked on two wins in the past week to run their season mark to 7-2.
Coach Michael Alberts’ crew dropped a 46-38 decision to Hankinson on Monday, edged Herreid-Selby 53-52 on Friday, and stopped Andes Central-Dakota Christian 45-35 in the Redfield Classic on Saturday.
This week LA hosts Tiospa Zina on Friday (JV  6:30 p.m., varsity to follow).
“We have done a lot of good things these last three games, and we have found things we need to focus on in practice,” said Alberts.  “Herreid-Selby was a really good game for our girls and they played really well on both ends of the court. We were able to shoot well from the outside, and we took really good care of the ball.
“Our next two games were a lot of the same. Offensively, it was hard to get things going. I think we were trying to force some things that weren’t there,” noted Alberts.  “We turned the ball over more than we would like in both games. We were getting some good looks, but they weren’t falling for us. We got down vs. Hankinson and our girls worked extremely hard to get back in the game, but Hankinson hit some big shots when they needed it. I am still very proud of our girls for playing as hard as they can no matter what happens.”

Paytyn Marlow pumped in 27 points, including six three-pointers, to lead Langford Area to a narrow win over Herreid-Selby and the Lady Lions straight win.
The two clubs were never separated by more than two points at the quarter breaks.  The Lady Lions led 12-10 after one period, trailed 27-26 at halftime, and led 41-39 after three stanzas before holding on for the one-point win.
Alex Darling added 14 points and connected on four shots beyond the arc.  Lizzie Gustafson pulled down eight rebounds, Clarissa Guy grabbed seven, and Marlow and Josie Jensen had five each.  Marlow, Mariah Tosse, and Gustafson each had three assists.
